The stars and stripes are big and bright.....

These hot summer days really make me miss Texas! If I could get these few things in Williamsburg, I'd be a very happy girl!

Blue Bell Creameries, Brenham, TX
Blue Bell is the best ice cream ever!... What I wouldn't give for a scoop of mint chocolate chip.

In high school, this was me and my girlfriends' jam! I remember we used to go after school and load up on their creamy jalapeno dip, queso, and chips. Looking back on it, I have a feeling the servers didn't care for us very much. : )

  Barton Springs, Austin, TX

Ah Barton Springs...one of my favorite places ever!!! This natural spring turned swimming pool is the jump off! I always get a little jealous when my friends in Austin tell me they're going.

Deep in the heart of Texas!

On one of my many excursions to the Williamsburg flea market, I stumbled upon this fantastic road map of Texas from the 1940's. Being the true Texan that I am I knew I had to have it!

As soon as I saw this lovely map I knew I could do something really cute with it. It took a few hours to finish but in the end it was totally worth it!

Blueberry Key Lime Mini-Pies

As soon as I saw this recipe on Piewacket blog, I knew I had to make it - and boy I'm glad I did. I took the mini-pies to a dinner party a few weeks ago and they were a total hit!

Recipe:
1 1/2 large containers of blueberries
1/4 cup of sugar
about 2 tablespoon of Key Lime Curd (you can use Lemon Curd)
Pre-made pie dough (2 pie crusts makes 8-10 mini-pies)
brown sugar
Muffin Tins
Cooking spray
large circle cookie cutter

1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and spray muffin tray with cooking spray.

2. Mix blueberries, key lime curd and sugar in a large bowl

3. Take pie dough and cut out mini circles using a cookie cutter. Make sure to pick a cookie cutter that is larger than the the muffin tray.

4. Put mini-pie crust in the muffin tin and fill with blueberry mix.

5. Get creative and use the extra crust to make lattice pie tops. I also like to sprinkle a little brown sugar on the top to give it a little extra something.

6. Bake pies for 20-25 minutes.

7. Let the pies cool for about 10 minutes, then serve and enjoy with some vanilla ice cream (what I would have given for some Bluebell Vanilla Bean Ice Cream!! )

Purrr-fect!

I'd love to introduce you to my two adorable kittens, Barnaby and Binx! We've only had them for less than 4 months and I've already grown incredibly attached. My boyfriend, Pat, got them for me for my birthday from BARC ( Brooklyn Animal Rescue Coalition).  We had our hearts set on them ever since we saw them posted online. Although their general mischief makes crafting a little difficult at times, they are truly the sweetest cats I've ever had. They've even inspired me to write a children's book based on them!

Oh-me Oh-my! Dip Dye DIY

photos curticie of apartmenttherapy and 2modern blog

Dip dye furniture has become one of the hottest trends in DIY furniture for 2012! It adds that extra something to make drab furniture into something unique.

Things needed:
Paint (I used left over wall paint)
Brushes
Painter's tape
2 yards of fabric (1 yard needed per seat cushion)
staple gun
screwdriver

I did this using 2 chairs that I bought at a local thrift store for $10 each. From there, I gave the chairs a good cleaning and removed the seat cushions (the cushions are usually screwed into the bottom of the seat). I then  painted them using an eggshell white from my local paint store. Once they were dry, it was time to tape off the legs using the painter's tape. Use a ruler and make sure each leg is the same height. Next, choose a color for the bottom of the legs - I suggest using a pastel color such as salmon or mint green. Paint the bottom of the chairs with the contrasting color. I suggest applying 2 coats so the color is really vibrant. Then, just peel the tape off when the paint is completely dry. A helpful hint: make sure the tape is level when you're wrapping it around the leg of the chair! Also, if the paint bleeds through the tape, don't worry - just take your paint brush and touch it up.
Covering the seat was really easy and took no time at all. I used fabric I purchased from Purl Soho down on Broome Street in Soho.

I sugest getting thicker fabric so it is less likely to be easily damaged. I learned how re-upholster from a youtube video from Howdini. In 10 minutes time you'll have a new seat cushion!

So there you have it! Dip dyed furniture!

Hope this inspires you to spice up any tired furniture in your home!

So after many months of debating on whether I should start up a crafting blog, I finally caved and said 'why the heck not!'.  Crafting has always been a personal addiction of mine. When I'm not auditioning for musicals, I try to tackle as many DIY projects as I can get my hands on. I find DIY's posted by my fellow bloggers and I see if I can do them myself while adding a little twist to it. One of my favorite projects I've done recently is from A Beautiful Mess Blog.I thought I'd attempt this on my own using a messy paint by numbers I found at the Williamsburg flea market last weekend.
Items needed:
painting or any print
vinyl letter stickers
acrylic paint and paint brushes

This project is easy as pie! Just choose a desired phrase you wish to use and spell it out using the vinyl letter stickers. Then just paint over the letters using acrylic paint. Once the paint is dry just peel off the the letters.

The blog I used gave me some great advice to follow. By cutting out the letters and placing them on the painting, I was able to space the words properly without any problems! I had a blast doing this painting but I did run into an unexpected problem. The vinyl letters were extremely sticky and they pulled off some of the paint. I found that it helped to take the stickers and place them on the inside of your hands and pull them off a few times. This helped to remove some of the stickiness. Unfortunately, I discovered this helpful trick when I was almost done with the project. I ended up having to paint over the spots where the paint lifted. Although I was frustrated at the time, it ended up being a happy accident. The new paint helped freshen it up and made the colors pop from inside the letters!
Until next time!
